West Virginia Town Plans Candlelight Vigil For Beloved Local Hooters That’s Being Demolished

A sad day for Charleston, West Virginia.

If you’ve ever spent any time in the Mountain State’s capital city, chances are you’ve ventured over to the Hooters in Kanawha City.

I used to live just a couple miles from that Hooters, and spent many evenings there enjoying the…wings and beer. Yeah, we’ll go with that.

But unfortunately, the beloved breastaurant closed its doors in 2020 and has sat empty ever since.

While the community held out hope that one day the Hooters would make its triumphant return, unfortunately it seems that the building has officially served its last chicken wing.

It was recently announced that the Hooters building would be demolished to make room for a Sheetz gas station (which honestly, if your familiar with Sheetz, is still a win). But before the iconic Hooters building comes down for good, residents of Charleston are planning to pay their respects to the place that holds so many memories for them – with a candlelight vigil.

An event on Facebook has been created for the memorial to the beloved Hooters, with residents planning on meeting at the building this Friday for one final time.

According to the event’s description:

“Its Finally official. We have all in one way shape or form been holding on to pure hope that someone would purchase the closed building down that once was the almighty Hooters and reopen it. That seems to not be the case. The building will begin being demoed on Feb 26th. 2024.

With this being said, lets all gather in remembrance of the amazing power that was brought to us all by Hooters with a Candle Light Visual at the Kanawha City Location. Bring your candles and signs and lets let Hooters and the city know we will miss it tremendously. We will have Chicken wings with the traditional Hooters sauce on site and a limited amount of the GOAT SANDWICH “The Strip Cheese”.

So far over 300 people have RSVP’d to attend the event, with many sharing their fond memories from better days:

“I once saw a dude snort a line of black pepper on a dare at this Hooter’s. RIP.”
