Presidential aide Charalambos Charalambous resigns amid corruption scandal
Charalambos Charalambous, the Director of the Presidentâs Office, submitted his resignation on Monday, stating he refuses to allow his presence in government to be used as a âtool of exploitationâ to damage the Republic of Cyprus or President Nikos Christodoulides.
The resignation follows the release of a videoâlinked by state intelligence to a Russian-led âDoppelgangerâ disinformation campaignâwhich used covertly recorded conversations to allege illegal campaign financing and institutional corruption. Officials have characterized the video as a âhybrid attackâ aimed at destabilizing the nation during its Presidency of the Council of the EU.
The video investigation
The content was released on 8 January. The timing, of course, does not seem coincidental. The Cypriot Republic has taken on the Presidency of the European Council at the beginning of 2026. George Lakkotrypis, former energy minister and appointed consul of Kazakhstan in 2023, denounced the manipulation of videos involving him: âIt is clear that the statements have been edited to distort the context of the discussions.â

In a statement released on social media, Charalambous maintained that his comments in the video were subjected to âdeliberate distortionsâ and âselective excerptsâ taken out of context. He confirmed that he provided a formal statement to the police on Saturday to clarify the âreal frameworkâ of the recorded references.
âI will not, under any circumstances, accept the slightest shadow being cast on my integrity,â Charalambous said. âMore importantly, I will not allow my presence in the government to be turned into a tool of exploitation with the aim of hurting the Republic of Cyprus or the President.â
Charalambous, who described his participation in the government as a âconscious choice to serveâ rather than an act of political ambition, argued that his resignation was necessary for transparency. He urged state institutions to act swiftly to ârestore the truthâ and expose the âmalice of the orchestrators of this attack.â
Pressure mounts on President to sack top aide over leaked video scandal
The noose is tightening around the director of the Presidentâs office as opposition and coalition parties unite in calling on Nikos Christodoulides to dismiss Charalambos Charalambous from his post over the fake investor scandal.
Cyprus: Corruption scandal engulfs president and his entourage in early days of EU presidency
The Presidential Palace has shown no intention of taking further action beyond the First Ladyâs resignation from the Independent Social Support Body, and pressures are not expected to ease following that departure alone.
AKEL General Secretary Stefanos Stefanou addressed the president in an open letter yesterday, following two days of public statements.
In the letter, Stefanou said the presidentâs reaction to the scandal could be interpreted in two ways: âEither you do not grasp the seriousness of the matter, which is extremely problematic for the institution you represent, or you tolerate unacceptable practices.â
He criticised the presidentâs stance as falling short of the circumstances and undermining his pre-election and post-election statements about corruption. Stefanou added that the claim the video resulted from hostile âforeign fingerâ actions âwas reused in the past for the golden passports scandal and is a claim that not only failed to convince, but exposed and defamed Cyprus internationally.â
The AKEL leader wrote that when the president allows close associates âto implicate him in decisions and procedures that lie outside all political ethics and beyond the frameworks of the law, he strikes the institution [of the President] and becomes complicit in potential offences, even criminal ones.â
Stefanou repeated that the president should have dismissed his office director, abolished the authority chaired by the First Lady, disclosed donors and demanded action from the competent institutions.
âUnfortunately, your stance confirms that you are simply recycling the old practices of not assuming political responsibility, covering up scandals and impunity. If you truly want to leave power with clean hands, as you have sometimes stated, you still have the opportunity to do so. The choice is yours: confrontation with corruption or identification with it?â Stefanou wrote.

DIKO leader Nicholas Papadopoulos went to the Presidential Palace to discuss the matter with President Christodoulides, hear his responses and brief his party, which continued discussing the issue yesterday evening.
DIKO made three proposals and will wait to see decisions made. The moves are:
(a) suspension or resignation of Charalambos Charalambous,
(b) the First Ladyâs fund to transfer to the Cyprus Youth Organisation, and
(c) appointment of special criminal investigators to examine issues arising from the video.
EDEK expects honest answers from the government and decisions on transparency. In a statement, EDEK said the movement has âno doubt that the publication of the controversial video aims to inflict a blow against the credibility, prestige and reputation of the Republic of Cyprus, as it coincides with the start of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union and with geopolitical developments.â
EDEK suggested that âthose behind this type of hybrid warfare would not have fertile ground if it were not provided to them by those who are implicated with their statements and evidently with their actions, which refer to entanglement, corruption, cash trafficking and favouritism with quid pro quos.â
The movement believes âthe practices of the past have not been abandonedâ and demands drastic decisions, including full transparency for all government and presidency-related funds with disclosure of amounts and sources, and removal of the government official appearing in the video and all those involved in these procedures.
Meanwhile, the Greens expressed ârespect and appreciation for Mrs Karseraâs action, which applies the saying âCaesarâs wife must not only be honest, but must be seen to be honest.â Her sensitivity and integrity are honourable.â
They expect âthe director of the Presidentâs office, Mr Charalambos Charalambous, to take similar action displaying the same sensitivity and integrity.â

Shannon Whirry Nude Scenes From âBody of Influenceâ Enhanced

Shannonâs blasphemously immodest, gravity-defying titanic titties and hairy harlot hole certainly do âinfluenceâ the circumcised Dudes from the Judea Kingdom next to Cyprus⊠to want to stone her. For even though this filth was released 33 years ago, Talmudic law has no statute of limitations for such egregious, big-breasted offenses against YWYHâs modesty.
In fact, I have personally witnessed elderly grandmothers (wrinkled, toothless, and half-blind), being dragged into the village square and righteously lapidated over nothing more than grainy black-and-white photographs of them unveiled in their youth. So if this fossilized floozy Shannon thinks the passage of three decades has granted her immunity from Islamic justice, she is sorely mistaken.
