What has been referred to as China’s answer to Sex and the City, is set to hit Egyptian TV screens. According to Chinese newspaper, Xinhua, Egyptian and Chinese media officials gathered in Cairo to celebrate the upcoming broadcast of the Arabic-dubbed version of China’s hit TV series Ode to Joy on Channel 2, Egyptian state TV.

Having debut in 2016, the drama revolves around five Chinese women, each with a different age, background, and story, sharing the same floor in the metropolitan Chinese city of Shanghai. In its debut season, it was the second most watched drama in China and its episodes have gone on to amass 18 million views on YouTube.
Ode to Joy’s first season is made up of 42 episodes, and will begin broadcasting on on January 1st, 2019.
The Sunday ceremony was attended by Naila Farouk, head of the Egyptian state TV, Gao Jianmin, deputy minister of information at China’s National Radio and Television Administration, Song Aiguo, Chinese ambassador to Egypt and others.
“Broadcasting ‘Ode to Joy’ in Egypt is undoubtedly a new accomplishment,” said Jinamin at the ceremony, Xinhua reports.
