According to Yahoo Sports and Reuters, the NCAA confirmed that Hunter, Short, and Vincent intentionally performed poorly in seven games between December 2024 and January 2025. Sanders and Stredic accepted money offers to influence a January 6, 2025 matchup, while Freeman shared insider fantasy sports details with others for gambling purposes. The NCAA has now permanently banned all six players from future college competitions.

Text messages between Vincent and third parties showed discussions about “throwing” games, including one against McNeese State on December 28, 2024.

That game ended with the Privateers losing by 25 points, one more than the spread, confirming the fix.

A teammate later reported hearing Short tell another player not to score during a timeout, according to Sports Illustrated.

At Mississippi Valley State, Donovan Sanders and Alvin Stredic admitted they were offered money to influence a January 6, 2025 game.

Betting companies noticed irregular wagers more than three times higher than normal for that game, leading to an NCAA review. Both players denied taking cash but admitted to receiving gambling approaches.

Meanwhile, BJ Freeman at Arizona State shared his fantasy performance stats with a former teammate and his girlfriend, allowing them to bet on his daily fantasy results. According to Yahoo Sports, Freeman later lied to investigators about having a daily fantasy account.

The NCAA called all six cases “Level I violations,” which are the most severe. Each player received a lifetime ban from NCAA sports. Officials said the rulings send a clear warning that gambling manipulation in college sports “will not be tolerated under any circumstance.”
