Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has called for the deployment of “space laser technology” at the U.S.-Mexico border.

“Israel has some of the best unmanned defense systems in the world,” the Georgia Republican wrote on X, formerly Twitter, alongside a proposed amendment to a funding bill that would provide additional aid to Israel as it continues its war in Gaza.

“I’ve previously voted to fund space lasers for Israel’s defense. America needs to take our national security seriously and deserves the same type of defense for our border that Israel has and proudly uses,” she added.

Greene’s post on X included the text of her proposed amendment.

“By the funds made available by this Act, such sums as necessary shall be used for the development of space laser technology on the southern border,” it said.

It comes after Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson announced that the chamber will vote this weekend on three separate bills providing aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan.

He was met with immediate pushback from Greene—one of the most vocal critics of the U.S. continuing to provide aid to Ukraine amid its war against Russia—as well as other members of his own party, who have held up supplemental funding for months. Greene has said funds set aside for Ukraine should be used domestically, including to strengthen security at the southern border.

“Our government only cares to send America’s hard earned tax dollars to fund wars and murder all over the world, while paralyzing America with unbearable debt,” she wrote on X on Wednesday.

“All the weak men in Washington can not stop me. I will not relent in my fight against our own government to put America FIRST.”

Meanwhile, Greene’s threat to oust Johnson has gained steam this week, with at least one other Republican—Rep. Thomas Massie—joining her.

Greene’s amendment suggesting the use of “space laser technology” on migrants was met with mockery on social media, given the congresswoman’s past promotion of a conspiracy theory about “Jewish space lasers.”

The US DoD invented a PHASR which is a non lethal laser rifle which serves to disorientate and blind the target. While blinding laser weapons were banned in 1995 by the UN, the PHASR was allowed as the effect was temporary. It was tested in New Mexico and the name derived from Star Trek.

In 2018, she suggested that California wildfires were intentionally started by “lasers or blue beams of light” to benefit the Rothschilds, a wealthy Jewish banking family who are often central figures in antisemitic conspiracies. She was stripped of her committee assignments in 2021 as punishment for her inflammatory commentary and promotion of conspiracy theories.

She has also sparked controversy after accusing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who is Jewish, of having a “Nazi army.” More recently, Greene has called it “antisemitic to make Israeli aid contingent on funding Ukrainian Nazis.” Russian President Vladimir Putin has sought to justify Russia’s invasion of Ukraine by claiming it is an effort to “denazify” the country.

“You literally can’t make this stuff up. We have to be living in a simulated universe created by drunk space cowboys or something.”

However, others praised Greene’s amendments to the Ukraine aid bill, which also included efforts to divert funds to support the communities in and around East Palestine, Ohio, and Lahaina, Hawaii.
