The trend in question has been growing in popularity on the social media platform, X. It sees users accuse vice president JD Vance of killing the Pope after he was seen meeting the leader of the Catholic church the day before he passed away. Vance had a meeting with the Pope on Easter Sunday (April 20).

In tribute to the Pope, Vance shared a photo of their meeting and wrote: “My heart goes out to the millions of Christians all over the world who loved him. I was happy to see him yesterday, though he was obviously very ill.”

Responses from social media users accused the politician of being the “Anti-Christ” and the cause of the Pope’s death. The late Pope Francis passed away after a battle with pneumonia.

“Okay JD killed the pope,” Schlossberg penned on his official account. No photo accompanied the message. While some followers agreed with the simple response: “probably,” others weren’t too pleased.

Someone wrote: “That’s a pretty serious accusation lad.” A third wrote: “Are you kidding with this? Just not funny – total disrespect.”

A fourth noted: “Libel lawsuit coming in 3, 2, 1…. Good luck with that.”

But many are blaming him for the death – with some calling him a “walking disease” while others have labelled him a “living curse,” much like when Queen Elizabeth II died hours after meeting with the most-cursed Prime Minister in British history, Liz Truss.

One said: “Liz Truss killed The Queen. JD Vance killed the Pope. Can we just stop these people hanging out with the elderly?”

Sources also claimed the visit from Vance was an attempt to repair some broken relationships. The pontiff was very critical of US President Donald Trump. In 2016, he questioned Trump’s faith while he was running for office the first time, and said “a person who thinks only about building walls… and not of building bridges, is not Christian”.

More recently, he referred to Trump’s immigration views as “an ugly thing”, and his plans to increase deportations as a “disgrace”.

However, Trump did share his condolences following the Pope’s death on his X account. He penned: “Rest in Peace Pope Francis! May God Bless him and all who loved him!”
