DNA analysts think the sighting was the first time the animal was spotted in Florida or the US.
Officials are concerned that the species may have settled in other parts of the country.
The worm-like creatures are native to Colombia and Venezuela but have been found near the basin of the Amazon River, according to Mongabay
Caecilians do not have any legs and their name means “blind” in Latin.
But, some species may have tiny eyes tucked away under their skin.
Caecilians use tentacles that help the animal smell food, MailOnline reports.
STRANGE CREATURE
Not a lot is known about these animals but fossils that reportedly date back around 170million years were found in North America.
Coleman Sheehy, manager of Florida Museumâs herpetology collection, said: âVery little is known about these animals in the wild, but there’s nothing particularly dangerous about them, and they don’t appear to be serious predators.
âThey’ll probably eat small animals and get eaten by larger ones. This could be just another non-native species in the South Florida mix.â
Itâs thought that are around 200 species of caecilians and they tend to live underground, according to Wired.
Caecilians move like worms and they tend to eat termites but can grab small snakes, frogs, and lizards.
Their prey is swallowed whole no matter what size it is.
Lawmakers in Florida are in the process of banning the sale, ownership, and breeding of reptiles including green iguanas and several types of python, according to the Miami Herald.
Owners that currently have pets will be required to apply for a permit.
A total ban is expected to come into force in 2024.
Officials say the ban is being introduced as the reptiles can ânegatively impactâ Floridaâs ecosystems, economy or risk human health and safety.
In August 2018, a genetic study found cross-bred DNA in an invasive snake species that had emerged from the Florida Everglades.
The beast was spawned from a mix of Burmese and Indian python snakes and officials warned they could be found across America as they are suited to a range of different climates and environments.

Nicola Anne Peltz is an American actress. Her breakthrough came when she played Katara in the 2010 film The Last Airbender. Wikipedia
Born: January 9, 1995 (age 19), Westchester County, New York, United States
Height:Â 1.66Â m
Education:Â Rye Country Day School
Nicola Peltz is one of Hollywoodâs fastest rising young stars and sheâs only 19 years old. Her first big break came when she was cast as Katara in the 2010 film The Last Airbender. Since then she has gone on to star in the critically claimed A&E series Bates Motel, and in the fourth installment of the Transformers franchise, Transformers: Age of Extinction.
Peltz was born and raised in Westchester County, New York. Both of her parents have been very successful in their own right. Her mother, Claudia Heffner, is a former model and her father, Nelson Peltz, is a billionaire businessman and a philanthropist, who is active in various Jewish causes and has been described by the New York Times as a “compassionate leader” of the New York Jewish community. Peltz also has 6 brothers, and says that as a result she grew up as a tomboy and never really considered acting as a career, instead thinking that sheâd end up becoming an ice hockey player.
âI have six brothers and one sister. I grew up playing ice hockey, a total tomboy, and that’s what I thought I was going to doâbe an ice-hockey player,â she told Interview magazine earlier this year.
âBut then I did an acting class at my school and really liked it. When I was 12, I got a manager, but my mom was against it. It took a lot of convincing. But when I got a job at Manhattan Theatre Club, I think she saw how passionate I was about it and that I worked really hardâand now she’s super supportive.â
The acting bug caught on quickly and from there Peltz decided to kiss her former ice hockey dreams goodbye. Her first official film debut was in the 2006 Christmas comedy film Deck the Halls, followed by the indie comedy film Harold in 2008. Both of the films did poorly at the box office and were panned by critics. And just to make matters worse, her next project, the M. Night Shyamalan directed The Last Airbender was also poorly received and Peltz ended up nominated for the Worst Supporting Actress award at the 31st Golden Raspberries Awards.
But despite early failures, Peltz decided to keep pursuing her dreams and is now gaining the recognition she deserves. Her portrayal of the character Bradley Marin in A&Eâs Bates Motel has gotten her some positive press, and the Transformers franchise made her their new leading lady. In a recent interview with Paste Magazine, Peltz spoke about what it was like to be a part of the new Transformers trilogy, after being a fan of the series growing up.
I will be interesting to see where Peltzâ career will take her from here. She may be young but sheâs proven that sheâs got the determination, the charisma and the talent to take her all the way to the Hollywood A list.
Nicola Peltz is emerging as a force to be reckoned with, on both the big and small screen. Her most prominent roles include the series Bates Motel (2013), and the films The Last Airbender (2010) and Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014).
Nicola was born in Westchester County, New York, to Claudia (Heffner), who has worked as a model, and Nelson Peltz, a billionaire businessman whose assets include the Snapple brand of drinks. Nicola is of Ashkenazi Jewish (from her father) and German, Welsh, and English (from her mother) heritage.
Nicola made her stage debut in 2007, opposite Jeff Daniels and Alison Pill, in the Laurence Olivier Award-winning production of “Blackbird”, at the Manhattan Theatre Club, directed by Joe Mantello. In 2012, she starred, alongside Melanie Lynskey and Campbell Scott, in Eye of the Hurricane (2012), a compelling family adventure about a small Everglades community struggling to put their lives back together in the wake of a devastating hurricane. In 2010, Peltz starred in M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender (2010), opposite Dev Patel and Jackson Rathbone. The film was written, directed and produced by Shyamalan and was based on the first season of Nickelodeon’s animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005). Peltz made her feature film debut in 2006 in Deck the Halls (2006), with Danny DeVito, Matthew Broderick and Kristin Chenoweth.
In Michael Bay’s Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014), Peltz stars alongside Mark Wahlberg and Jack Reynor. She plays Tessa Yeager, the daughter of a mechanic (Wahlberg) who makes a major discovery that catches the attention of the Autobots, Decepticons, and the U.S. government. The film is the fourth in the blockbuster series of live-action films, and is scheduled for release by Paramount on June 27th.
Later this summer, Peltz will also star in Kevin Asch’s Affluenza (2014), which is set for limited release in July. The film is a coming- of-age story, inspired by “The Great Gatsby” and is set amongst the upper-class in the Long Island suburb of Great Neck, during the weeks leading up to the financial meltdown of 2008.
On the small screen, Peltz reprised her role as “Bradley Martin”, a troubled high school student, in the second season of A&E’s critically-acclaimed series, Bates Motel (2013). The series is a modern re-imagining and prequel to the 1960 Alfred Hitchcock cult classic, Psycho (1960), which focuses on the life of “Norman Bates” and his mother, “Norma Bates”, portrayed by Freddie Highmore and Vera Farmiga.
