Welch became emotional when talking about the issue in a leaked podcast interview with YouTuber FaZe Banks, which has caused several investors to claim large financial losses.

Welch became well-known after a street interview in June 2024 in which she used the phrase “hawk tuah spit on that thang.” She then teamed up with a group of cryptocurrency developers to launch her own meme coin, “$HAWK token.” On December 4, the token’s value fell by almost $450 million in less than 20 minutes, and some investors claimed they had lost all of their money.

Amid the backlash, Welch shared a statement on X on 4 December, which read: “Hawkanomics: Team hasn’t sold one token and not 1 KOL was given 1 free token.

“We tried to stop snipers as best we could through high fee’s in the start of launch on @MeteoraAG. Fee’s have now been dropped.”

Welch’s Response

According to the leaked podcast, Welch thanked her followers and said she was working to “figure everything out and make things right.”

Welch said, “I want to start by saying thank you to all my true fans and all the people that actually watch my stuff and they keep up with me. We’re trying to sort out all the pieces and stuff to, like, get all this figured out and make everything right. Oh my God, I’m gonna cry.”

Welch apologized and said she wanted to make things right, but FaZe Banks blamed her staff for insider trading and poor management. He said that Welch’s group handled the matter improperly, disclosed information, and did not shield her from the consequences.

Welch has not released a formal statement, and questions from the media have not yet received a response from her agents.
