First, Uncle Sam offers $5 million reward for tips to confiscate Russian assets…
Snitching on Russian oligarchs to US government with information leading to seizure of stolen assets could lead to a $5 million reward
- The US Government has announced $5million payouts to Americans offering information leading to seizure of assets belonging to Russian oligarchs
- The rewards, announced Wednesday by the Treasury Department, come as part of an effort by US officials to sanction individuals supporting the war in Ukraine
- Sanctions by the US and several other Western nations have seen countries across Europe confiscate Russian businessmen’ yachts, mansions, and jets
- The new guidance, however, dubbed the ‘Kleptocracy Asset Recovery Rewards Program,’ could offer payouts of more than $5m in some cases, feds said
- Assets can include yachts, jets, investments and properties owned by the rich Russians – like jewelry and art – only if they are situated in the US
Under the new program, any US citizen who relays information that leads to the restrain, seizure, or forfeiture of assets ‘linked to corruption involving the government of the Russian Federation,’ could claim the $5millon, Treasury officials said Wednesday.
Assets can include yachts, jets, and properties owned by the rich Russians, only if they are situated in the US.
They can also include any financial holdings under the name of the oligarchs, if they are deemed by the US government to be aiding the Russian cause as the conflict continues.
As a result, Russia is fighting back by officially requesting Uncle Sam to return Alaska
Lawmakers reject Russian official’s request to return Alaska: ‘Never, ever, ever’
Alaska lawmakers are assuring a Russian official who said the U.S. should return Alaska and other areas to Russia that it’s just not happening.
Russian parliament member Oleg Matveychev on a TV program addressed waves of sanctions against Russia in response to the countryâs ongoing invasion of Ukraine, saying leaders should âthink about reparations.â
âThe harm these sanctions caused us cost money. Return of possessions, including possessions of the Russian Empire, Soviet Union and even parts of Russia that are now occupied by the United States,â Matveychev said on Sunday, according to the Anchorage Daily News.Â
The host of the show asked Matveychev about the return of Alaska and Fort Ross, which was established by Russians in California, according to the California Department of Parks and Recreation. Â
âThis is my next point â recognizing Alaska, Fort Ross and Antarctica,â Matveychev responded, according to the Anchorage Daily News. âWe actually discovered it, so it rightfully belongs to us.â
The United States reached an agreement to purchase Alaska from Russia for $7.2 million in 1867. Alaska was admitted as a state in 1959.
