Rival groups fight in Hong Kong, on its 15th straight weekend of protests

Skirmishes reported at a pro-Beijing rally in Kowloon district as Hong Kong enters its 15th week of unrest.

Pro Beijing groups had called on people to go and clear out anti-government ‘Lennon walls’ across the city. These clearances became flash points as protest sympathizers came out to defend the walls which have become part of Hong Kong’s streetscape.
The most bitter clash came in Amoy Plaza mall in Kowloon City where rival groups had scheduled gathering at almost exactly the same time. Fights broke out and the police were called to separate the two sides.
The pro-Beijing demonstrators chanted “Support the police” and “China, add oil (meaning “Keep It Up” in Chinese)”, while pro-democracy protesters began impromptu renditions of a popular protest anthem, prompting rival demonstrators to sing China’s national anthem.

Anyway, the situation soon turned violent, with groups trading blows and some using umbrellas and Chinese flags to attack their opponents.
The scuffles left some people visibly bloodied and bruised before police moved in to break up the fights. Several protesters were detained.
