But while the standard version costs $625, the scuffed up iteration goes for a whopping $1,850.

According to Balenciaga, the destroyed line “suggests that Paris Sneakers are meant to be worn for a lifetime.” Only 100 of the sneakers have been produced. For the shoe launch, the brand released photos of shoes that look extremely destroyed—the real product on their website does not look this tattered—and this raised some eyebrows online. Ethical fashion campaigner Livia Firth said she found the new limited sneakers “offensive.” “To buy something so destroyed is beyond offensive towards people I actually met who wore shoes like this because they couldn’t afford basic meals. On the other side what is Balenciaga trying to say?” she wrote on Instagram.
