Sarah Michelle Gellar went on a Google deep dive about a spider’s down under following a family trip to the land down under.

Appearing on the latest episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers, the actress spoke about her trip to Australia over Thanksgiving and the various animals and creatures she encountered. One of which left a lasting impression: a detachable penis spider.

Male orb weave spiders have a detachable penis which works even after being detached. When mating, he will abandon it inside his female (cannibalistic) partner and flee, knowing she will try to eat him.

“Of course, once I saw this, I had to go on a deep dive,” shared Gellar. “Like, how does that work? Basically, it puts its penis into the mate. I have never said [the word penis] this many times on television. I feel like something bad is about to happen.”

Added Gellar, “So it puts its doink into the woman, and then in a huff of machoism, it leaves it there to impregnate her and then goes off to fight the other spiders.”

“Really?” replied Meyers.

“Patriarchy at work,” quipped Gellar, later wondering how the spiders “get it back.”

Said Meyers, “I don’t think they’re re-attachable penis spiders.”

“I have to go look further now,” said Gellar of her research. “My Google history is just bad news. Like, bad news!”
