Previously, Greene, a staunch ally of President Donald Trump, has drawn significant criticism for her remarks about the Catholic Church, particularly for accusing it of being run by “Satan” and supporting policies she views as harmful, such as aiding undocumented immigrants. In a 2022 interview, she claimed that the Church’s charitable work in helping migrants amounted to “Satan controlling the church,” which sparked backlash from Catholic leaders and organizations.

Greene, currently an Evangelical Protestant, noted then that she was “a cradle Catholic,” having been “born into the Church.”

The Georgia Republican said that she left Catholicism after realizing that she “could not trust the Church leadership to protect my children from pedophiles,” referring to the Catholic Church’s extensive history of alleged child sex abuse by clergy.
