A Russian state TV presenter announces her plan to get pregnant after Vladimir Putin’s call for women to give birth to stave off a demographic crisis.

Natalya Litovko, 43, announced she and her husband had been inspired by the Kremlin leader’s call in his state-of-the-nation address to fulfil their patriotic duty and procreate.

She told Rossiya 24 viewers on live TV of her mission to increase the size of her family. The loyalist presenter already has two children.

Russia’s population is in decline, partly due to his war-angled economy, mired in problems and failing to deliver for regular consumers.

The human cost of his conflict with Ukraine, which has seen hundreds of thousands of Russian men killed and maimed, is also a factor.

‘Speaking of the [new] national project – Family,’ announced a smiling Litovka.

‘My husband has just messaged me to say we’re going to have a third child.’

Putin is concerned for some time with the falling birth rate, and rarely misses a chance to call on women to have more babies.

Recently he lectured workers in a missile plant on the need to have more than two children.

‘Constant work aimed at improving the quality of life for families with children and supporting the birth rate is needed,’ he said today.

‘It is our religion and our moral values which are to the fore here.

‘Big families must become the norm. In the next six years, we have to achieve a sustainable birth rate.’

He announced state cash would be poured into regions with a low birth rate to improve incentives to have more children.

He was sure that the West was taking the wrong route.

‘The main purpose of the family is the birth of children, the continuation of the human race, the upbringing of children, and therefore the continuation of the existence of our multinational people,’ he told the nation.

‘We see what is happening in some countries, as they deliberately destroy the norms of morality, the institution of the family, push whole peoples to extinction and degeneration.

‘But we choose life.’

He added: ‘Russia has been and remains a stronghold of traditional values on which human civilization is built.

‘Our choice is shared by the majority of people in the world, including millions of citizens of Western countries.’
