Colombia Legalizes Marijuana, Cocaine to End War on Drugs
Colombia was known across the world as the home to drug lords like Pablo Escobar.
And the US government has estimated that Colombia produces more than 1 million kilograms of cocaine every year which is the largest production in the world.
Therefore, the new president of Colombia, a South American country, has announced his intention to regulate the use of narcotics that are considered illegal in order to end the war against drugs.
“It is time to accept that the war on drugs has failed miserably,” Colombian President Gustavo Petro said during his inauguration, commenting on his government’s recent bill to Congress to legalize recreational marijuana, Chilean newspaper El Tiempo (Time) reported.
Nearly 1 ton of cocaine was being shipped into Spain from Colombia hidden in rocks. Cops had to break open 188,000kg/20 tons of rocks to get it.
Colombian law already permits the production of cannabis for medicinal purposes, in particular for export to foreign markets.
Colombian Senator Gustavo Bolivar, one of the signatories to the new drug legalization bill, said that “even the United States of America (USA), with all its might and money, cannot win the war on drugs.
Bolivar noted that at the moment, Colombia produces more drugs than when Pablo Escobar was alive because there are more consumers and more farmers.
