Vinessa Shaw & Paula Malcomson in Ray Donovan – Part 2

Vinessa Shaw (Nude Debut) & Paula Malcomson in Ray Donovan [S2E4]

There are unconfirmed reports of Vinessa briefly naked (making it her first T&A) in Siren (posted about the flick on the old blog many moons ago). The indie flick is stuck in distributionΒ  purgatory at the moment.

Paula Malcomson makes her Ray Donovan nude intro and it’s of booty kind. Still hesitant to show her tits…

Interview: Vinessa Shaw
CC: I have perhaps a strange question. You have this very earthy, organic quality onscreen, and I was wondering if you were a tomboy growing up?
VS: No. I was very… My sister was the tomboy. I loved dressing up with the long dresses. I was a ballerina as a child. I would just wear dresses all around the house. We grew up in Topanga. And I would be freezing in a dress. I quickly became a tomboy, because I had to wear pants. Part of it is where I grew up. I grew up Buddhist. That’s a very grounding practice to have. You’re very much in your own self and in your own body. My parents practiced, so I started chanting at around 9. It was my own choice. My sister started at age 21. My parents never forced it upon us.
CC: I’m a fan of Two Lovers, but have an ulterior motive for speaking with you; I just finished my thesis on Eyes Wide Shut, so I wanted to ask you about that. Firstly, everyone accused Kubrick of being cold and distant. Did you perceive that in him?
VS: For some reason I didn’t experience that with him. Stanley was very influential in my life. At the time I got the part I was still in college and I was going to school to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. I had been a child actor and I thought it was time to grow up. I didn’t really believe you could act for a living. Being in that film I realized how much you could do as an actor. As a child actor you just have to stand there and say the lines. But now I was doing take after take, I just felt like, in the zone. Like I’m uncovering something right now. I’m in a moment and I didn’t even know what that was. I was completely freed from any other preconceived notions of acting being something fun after school. He brought out what acting could be for me. He always gave me these sidelong glances — because I’m always myself — he would just smile at me. I had a very sassy nature especially when I was younger. I was quipping about something and he was trying to give direction, and then he said, ‘yes that’s exactly what I meant!’ He had a very salty sense of humor. I really loved playing with him in this sort of banter. He was very sarcastic. I enjoyed that. I didn’t even pay attention to the fact that he was cold. He was the first person who said to me that I should continue to act. He couldn’t wait to see what happened to me and if I ever needed a recommendation. I never had anybody say that so directly.
CC: What did you think of the film?
VS: I saw it three times. I had to get out of my head from the way that I usually look at films. You’re so used to first act, second act, it doesn’t have any of that. It’s just not done that way. I had to just go OK. It’s a blank canvas. I had to just watch it for what it is.
CC: We’ve run out of time. I wish I could talk to you about some of your other films that I love. You’ve made so many good ones. Stanley would be proud.

VS: I wish I could share with him. His daughter lives in L.A. and I met his wife and his daughter. Whenever I see them I feel like I know them and they’re family. We worked on that movie for so long. His daughter said, ‘my father just loved you.’ He had a great impact on me.

Like Being in Another World’: Vinessa Shaw on the 10th Anniversary of Eyes Wide Shut

Vinessa Shaw Interview – TWO LOVERS

Q: The love scenes in this film are much more realistic than we see in many movies. Were there any differences in other movie love scenes?

VS: (laughs) I think all movie love scenes are hard, because you can’t truly be as intimate as you would be with anyone you’re truly with, and everyone’s watching you. But I think especially for the love scene between [Sandra and Leonard], it’s in his parent’s house, and James really wanted it to be messy — not shooting on my face and then his face. I think you got the reality of the characters. Even in the end, when we’re post-coital, Sandra’s holding him instead of him holding her. It’s very much the nature of their characters, so I think he really got the correct mood of the scene — very passionate, but still kind of imbalanced in how she essentially views their relationship.

Q: In the meantime, what do you do, take on a play or just enjoy the nice time off?

VS: I’m very active, I’m not just an actor. I have other things going on. I’m a Buddhist and active in my Buddhist’s Association, and I’m actually a National Young Women’s representative for the organization, so I travel a lot helping young women who are practicing Buddhism. And I have my family, and this is a wonderful time to have some [free] time. But at the same time, I’m definitely ready to go to work again as well. I’m going to be honest.

Β VINESSA SHAW on ‘THE HILLS HAVE EYES’

Vinessa, you have the most disturbing scene in the movie with your baby, and Robert Joy’s mutant character kind of…ummm…”taking the place of your baby”…
VINESSA: [laughs at the wording of the question] Oh my…
How twisted was that scene?
VINESSA: Yes, it was very twisted. Definitely. That was kind of a point of contention. I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to do the movie if that were going to be the showcased part of myself, you know? [laughs] So I kind of was, “How are we going to shoot this?” I had three or four meetings with Alex and Greg before I really decided to do the movie. I thought, “They’re not going to want to deal with me, I’m too high maintenance.” I was just very specific about, “Is this going to turn into something else, like pornographic?” But we had many, many meetings regarding the nature of that and how it’d be shown. And I made sure it was shown in a certain way, and so did he. And by the end, Alex was like, [matter-of-factly] “And there it is! There’s the scene that we had ten million meetings about!” So we were all glad when it was done. But it was hard. And it was hard to negotiate with Robert because he has this cleft palate. It was more than just me getting attacked at that moment. It was like a lot of negotiation, and it was a long, long scene, and a lot of screaming, a lot of crying over and over again. So it was pretty horrifying. And I really liked what Alex had me do in that. He really had me make sure that even though I was screaming and crying, my eyes were like wide open looking at him. Protecting my baby…There was a lot going on. And seeing Emilie in the back being raped, and us connecting, and how am I going to save myself and my sister and my child? It was a huge, huge moment. I think it’s like the turning point of the movie, really.
How did you feel about collaborating with Alexandre on that scene and working in your ideas?
VINESSA: I know that was the major part, and I really appreciate him wanting to work with me on it. That was the most agreeable experience I’ve ever had with a director–really working something out together. It was cool. I really appreciated him, and I know he appreciated me, and it worked out for the best, I thought.
Vinessa is just following her mom’s footsteps. Susan Damante-Shaw (d.o.b. 6-17-50) ?
