Israel Condemns UK Sanctions on Cabinet Ministers as “Scandal”

JERUSALEM – Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar on Tuesday slammed Britain’s decision to impose sanctions on two Israeli cabinet ministers, calling the move a “scandal” and announcing a forthcoming government meeting to determine Israel’s response.

“We have been informed of Britain’s decision to include two of our ministers on the British sanctions list,” Saar said in a statement to the media. “It is a scandal that elected officials and members of the government are subject to these types of measures.”

The sanctions target Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir.

Saar said he had discussed the matter with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier in the day and that the cabinet would convene early next week to determine an official response to what he called “an unacceptable decision.”
