Surgeon Dr. Cyrus Tse sentenced to 120 hours of community service for taking upskirt photos of female student
(Hong Kong) Dr. Cyrus Tse Tak-yin, a surgeon and lecturer at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, has been sentenced to 120 hours of community service after admitting to illegally taking upskirt photos of a female student. The incident occurred in January 2024 during a lecture in the Choh-Ming Li Basic Medical Sciences Building.
The court heard that Dr. Tse, 47, who has been a registered medical practitioner since 2003, used his mobile phone to record the student without her consent, an act he later attributed to stress. The presiding magistrate noted that this was Dr. Tseβs first offence and took into account the positive aspects of the report on his character.
During the lecture, other students observed Dr. Tse positioning his phone under the victimβs skirt and alerted her. Upon her inspection of his phone, a video of the invasive recording was discovered in the phoneβs recycle bin. Surveillance footage presented in court showed Dr. Tse moving closer to the victim as she leaned forward to assist a classmate, at which point he extended his phone towards her.
Dr. Tse, who is known for his frequent media appearances and public speaking engagements, remained silent when questioned by police following the incident.
