Investigating sex acts in city parks: Police union says undercover operations were stopped for no good reason

It’s an issue Cincinnati has been dealing with for decades.
People meeting at city parks, particularly Mt. Airy forest, and engaging in sex and other lewd acts.
An undercover operation was in the works to put a stop to this behavior, but the police union claims those plans have changed.
“It seems pretty clear to me that city hall prefer that not be a priority whatsoever,” FOP president Dan Hils said.

Hils said he believes someone with the city put an end to it.
He said the vice unit had recently cited or arrested more than a dozen men for approaching undercover officers.

They planned on sharing this work with the public, according to Hils, but he claims they were told to cease operations and not to make physical arrests.
“Imagine yourself coming to something like this and instead of seeing the peaceful setting of what you expect in a park you see anonymous people meeting for sex,” Hils said.
Mayor Aftab Pureval responded to Hils’ statements.
He said the offenders have been cited in court and they will be prosecuted, adding:
“Given the historic rise in gun violence in our community, our resources should be specifically targeted at preventing and prosecuting violent crime, and that we should look for opportunities to cite non-violent offenses to court — rather than directing resources toward shaming people or jailing non-violent offenders.”

Hils thinks both can be done at once.

“We have a homicide unit, we have a gun crime taskforce, we have a vice unit and vice activities include what’s going on in the parks,” Hils said.
