Kim Kardashian has become a modern day Marilyn Monroe – with both women famed for sex scandals, three marriages, forays into politics (and ‘unconventional’ bodies that became VERY desirable!)

Kim Kardashian shut down the Met Gala red carpet in one of Marilyn Monroe’s most iconic dresses, a gold-beaded body hugger Monroe wore when she sexily sang happy birthday to President John F. Kennedy 60 years ago.

Kardashian had to lose 16 pounds to fit into the dress, designed by Jean Louis and purchased in 2016 by the Ripley’s Believe or Not! museum in Orlando, Florida, for a whopping $4.81 million.

“It was such a challenge,” she said. “I was determined to fit it.”

The dress originally cost $12,000. It was so tight Monroe had to be sewn into it when she purred “Happy birthday, Mr. president” on May 19, 1962, at a Madison Square Garden fundraiser. She died three months later. It has been known as the “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” dress ever since.

In a video from Ripley’s Believe It or Not! museum where she borrowed the gown, Kim is seen panicking as her team struggle to get the outfit over her famously large derriere.

But despite not being able to fully zip it up, Kim was relieved when they realized they could just tie the back of the dress and then cover the rear view with a white fur shawl, similar to what Marilyn was known for wearing.

‘Oh my god! Yeah, can we use that tie and tie it, and keep it open?’ Kim asks when she sees that the dress just about fits, in a video obtained by TMZ. ‘The tie comes with it right? What if we did that and then put a fur over it.

That meant that Kim wore the dress unzipped while she walked the red carpet of the Met Gala, before changing into a replica of the dress once she was inside the venue.

Marilyn’s glittering beaded gown was designed by Jean Louis, and has been on display at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Museum in Orlando, FL, after they bought it from Julien’s Auction for $4.81million.

Marilyn – who died at 36 from a drug overdose in 1962 – is said to have paid $1,440 for the custom piece to the designer, and it holds the record for the for the most expensive dress sold at an auction, making it one of the most expensive dresses in the world.

Legend has it that the garment was so tight, Marilyn had to be sewn into the dress prior to her performance for the President.
