US Rep. Lauren Boebert mistakenly calls out ‘man’ in Capitol ladies room

Colorado Republican U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert found herself in an awkward case of mistaken identity this week.

According to an anonymous GOP lawmaker who spoke with the Daily Beast, Boebert was overheard complaining to other House members that she saw Democratic U.S. Rep. Sarah McBride, the first transgender member of Congress, inside the women’s bathroom.

(Due to Speaker Mike Johnson’s renewed ban on transgender people using single-sex bathrooms, McBride is barred from the ladies room.)

Boebert then told the woman: “You shouldn’t be here,” says the source. Shortly afterwards, she realized she had the wrong person.

A Bloomberg reporter named Billy House also bore witness to the incident, saying Boebert “burst” out of the bathroom and complained to security of “a guy” inside. House says that “to her credit,” she recognized the mistake.

The story was confirmed by Boebert herself in a statement to the Daily Beast: “I made an error regarding a mistaken identity. I apologized, learned a lesson, and it won’t happen again,” she said.

The conservative lawmaker has long made transgender bathroom bills a core issue of her campaigns. Boebert’s bio on X reads: “Raising my boys to be MEN before liberals teach them to be women!”

Texas Democrat U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett, who has previously sparred with the Colorado representative on the House floor, called the incident “insanity.”

“Don’t talk to me about qualifications when the only priority of sitting members is to be bathroom police and they can’t even do that right,” Crockett wrote on X.
