Kara Lynn in Nude Production Of ‘The Tempest’

Kara Lynn & Marisa ‘Perfect Boobs’ Roper: Nude Production Of ‘The Tempest’ [VID]

This NSFW nude production of “The Tempest” is the most brave and beautiful thing you will see today

The show was performed in Central Park

by Janet Upadhye and Peter Cooper

Starring: Suzannah Gratz, Clara Kundin, Kara Lynn, Layne Tisdel Martin, Reanna Roane, Marisa Roper, Gina Marie Russell & Sarah Sutliff

Members of Outdoor Co-ed Topless Pulp Fiction Appreciation Society put on a production of Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” — and the actors were all female and all nude.
The show, that took place in a secluded spot in Central Park on May 19 and 20, was protected by a New York City law that allows you to be fully nude — as long as it is done in the name of art.
Nudity makes sense in “The Tempest,” a story of 12-year exiles on a Caribbean Island who are always naked and the more “civilized” characters who wash ashore the island after a storm capsizes their ship. The clothed newcomers begin in costume but later shed their “skins” as they become more involved with the locals and their way of life.
“You have to do naked for something other than shock value,” said Kara Lynn who played Ferdinand in the play. “In the show nudity is about feeling free enough to shed your old world values.”

ACTORS

Suzannah Gratz (Sebastian) is a trained theater actor/mover/writer recently migrated from the Los Angeles area to NYC. Suzannah is delighted to be making her NYC theater debut in this body empowering production of The Tempest. A self-proclaimed feminist and queer theater artist, Suzannah is passionately inspired by the expressions of body positivism, freedom, and social equality this piece explores. Recent/favorite credits include Emily in The Marriage of Bette and Boo with Costa Mesa Playhouse, the Nurse in Star Cross’d at the Hollywood Fringe Festival, and Chantal in The Thugs with California Repertory Theater. Suzannah holds a degree in Theater Arts Performance from California State University of Long Beach, and most recently trained with The Studio New York and the Upright Citizens Brigade of New York City.
Clara Kundin (Antonio) is an actor, singer, and teaching artist. She received her B.A. from St. Olaf College and then continued her studies at the École Jacques Lecoq in Paris. Her years in Paris found her performing onstage with Moving Parts, teaching at the École du Jeu, and performing on camera and as a voiceover artist. Now in NYC, Clara is a company member with The Ume Group and the Galli Theater. She has performed at the Guthrie Theater, the Gym at Judson, Triskelion Arts, and with Wirehead Collective. More information at clarakundin.com.
Kara Lynn (Ferdinand) is so proud to be performing with this amazing group of women. Kara is a professional actor and bodypaint model. Recent stage credits include host of Naked Holidays for 3 years, the Brooklyn F#ckfest, and the NY International Fringe Festival. She has improv training from UCB and is currently writing a webseries and her own stand-up comedy. For more info, feel free to come up after the show and say “Hi!” or follow her on Twitter and Instagram @KaraActress. Thanks for supporting naked Shakespeare!
Layne Tisdel Martin (Gonzalo) is a professional vagabond from Dallas. And Seattle. And London. She believes in magic, motion, and resisting the temptation to do the done thing. Her stage credits include Noises Off, Love Song, Texarkana Waltz, and The Vagina Monologues.
Reanna Roane (Ariel) is giddy to combine activism and art as Ariel in The Tempest. Her favorite credits include All’s Well That Ends Well (Shakespeare On the Sound), Much Ado About Nothing (Studio 1), Words of Choice: A One Woman Show, Ruined (Burning Coal Theatre Company), Pride & Prejudice, and Self Defense: Or the Death of Some Salesmen (UNC-Greensboro). Reanna would like to dedicate her performance to all the black and brown girls using their everyday magic to ‘flame amazement.’
Marisa Roper (Miranda) is beyond excited to be playing the role of Miranda in OCTPFAS’s bad-ass feminist production of The Tempest. Marisa has loved acting ever since she got her first big role of “Tree #3” in her elementary school production of The Wizard of Oz. Marisa is best known for her awful puns, heinous dance moves, and abysmal cast bio-writing skills. Marisa’s mom told Marisa to give her a shoutout for being so loving and supportive, and incubating Marisa inside of her for 9 months. You can check out Marisa’s website here: marisaroper.com.
Gina Marie Russell (Prospero) is thrilled to be, quite literally, baring it all for you! NY credits include: Marcus in Martyr’d Signs: a Titus Andronicus adaptation (Hudson Shakespeare Company), and Betsey in Sandbox: a 10-minute Play (Greenhouse Ensemble). Regional credits: Les Miserables (Village Theatre and Balagan Theatre), and Sally Brown in The Threepenny Opera (Seattle Shakespeare Company). Other favorite roles: Titania in Midsummer Night’s Dream, Ariel in The Tempest, and Audrey in As You Like It (GreenStage); Rona Lisa Peretti in 25th…Spelling Bee, and Mrs. Walker in The Who’s Tommy (Bainbridge Performing Arts).
Sarah Sutliff (Alonso) is a Brooklyn based actress, singer, and teaching artist. A graduate of Wagner College, she additionally studied at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting and the Pearl Theatre Conservatory, and with Karen Kohlhaas of the Atlantic Theatre Company. Sarah is a resident performer and educator with Galli Theater NY—an interactive fairytale theatre for children—and an actress with The Murder Mystery Co. Recent appearances: Rosanna in Brilliant Traces (International Women Artists’ Salon), Andy in Juliana (The Duplex), Jen in The Favor (The Chicago Fringe Festival, Under St. Marks), ‘A’ in Crave (Planet Connections Theatre Festivity – Nominated for Best Revival/Adaptation). Find upcoming projects at sarahsutliff.com.

MUSIC

Apibus (typically a trio) is an experimental folk band drawing on themes from mythology, art, symbolism, and nature. The music created for The Tempest is a blend of traditional European folk music and original pieces. With RenĂ©e Heitman on guitar and Albo Sudekum on violin, the sound of Prospero’s island is strange, rugged, and enchanting. Outside of their musical endeavors, RenĂ©e and Albo are both photographers and filmmakers.

DANCE

Max Arsenault (Dancer) has been a dancer for twenty years. She studied dance in college and has choreographed more than ten pieces for various performances. She also teaches dance with a focus on modern and does freelance performances around the city.
Erin Michelle (Dancer) got her start in dance and theatre arts at the age of 13, and quickly uncovered a passion that will last a lifetime. Having started with professional ballet training, she moved on to Latin and modern dances as well as aerial dance and has enjoyed performing, training and teaching in equal measure. Erin is proud to use her talents to promote healthier attitudes towards the human form and to ensure the rights of all are respected.
Xila Noir (Dance Captain/Dancer) is currently a dancer and researcher in New York City where she performs with Dance Haven at Columbia University. She has previously performed as a principal dancer with Consuming Kinetics Dance Company as well as in the AnnonyArts production of Zilch and in Tha King Production’s We Scream In Silence. As a feminist and supporter of using the body as an interpreter and creator of art, Xila is delighted to be a part of the exceptional cast and crew of The Tempest.
