A Democrat campaigning for a hotly-contested seat in Virginia’s House of Delegates has seen her popularity plummet since it emerged she had been performing sex acts with her husband for money online.
Susanna Gibson, a 40-year-old nurse practitioner, is fighting to salvage her campaign after the September 11 expose by The Washington Post.
Gibson said the reporting on the videos was ‘an illegal invasion of my privacy designed to humiliate me and my family,’ and said she refused to be ‘intimidated and silenced’.
But voters appear to be put off by the revelations, and are solidifying behind her Republican opponent, David Owen, a civil engineer and owner of a home construction company.
Before the Washington Post report, Owen was leading Gibson by 4 percent.

A new Cygnal poll, obtained by the New York Post, puts Owen ahead by 11 percent: Owen is on 49.5 percent, and Gibson is at 38.9.
Gibson’s unfavorability rating has soared from 12.5 percent to 45.2 percent among likely district voters.
And her favorability rating has fallen from 28.1 percent to 27.3 percent between August and September.
Gibson, a mother-of-two, has rejected calls for her to drop out of the Virginia race.
She was seen out and about in her leafy hometown on September 16 as she continues to fight for a seat in the Virginia House of Delegates.
Gibson went on to call out her rivals for attempting to derail her campaign ahead of the November 7 ballot.
‘My political opponents and their Republican allies have proven they’re willing to commit a sex crime to attack me and my family because there’s no line they won’t cross to silence women when they speak up,’ she said.
The newly-unearthed videos of the political candidate were posted to Chaturbate, a platform that says it is named for ‘the act of masturbating while chatting online.’
Videos on the site are streamed live without a password, and often archived on other publicly available sites.
Under Gibson’s username, she had more than a dozen videos archived on another site, Recurbate, in September 2022, after she entered the race.

It’s not clear when the live streams took place. Her username had 5,770 followers.
Gibson can be seen in the videos asking viewers for ‘tips’ to request specific sex acts – in violation of Chaturbate’s terms and conditions, which say: ‘Requesting or demanding specific acts for tips may result in a ban from the Platform for all parties involved.’
In one clip obtained by media, Gibson tells her husband: ‘I’ll let you f*** me in the a** doggy style in a private room if someone wants to pay. That’s the deal.’
At another point she says: ‘Y’all can watch me pee if you tip me and some tokens – again, I’m raising money for a good cause.’
At another, Gibson explains she is in an open relationship with her husband even though he ‘doesn’t like sharing.’
‘Yeah I f*** random strangers if you’re hot,’ she says.
‘We have tried swapping. I was telling them earlier about ethical non-monogamy.
‘We, uh – he doesn’t like sharing.’

Gibson has said the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2022 decision overturning Roe v Wade is what propelled her into political life.
She won the Democratic primary in June and is running against Owen in what is one of the most competitive districts in the state.
Owen has not commented on the scandal beyond to say that he is ‘sure this is a difficult time for Susanna and her family,’ and that he ‘remains focused’ on his own campaign.
Gibson and Owen are competing in the 57th District, an area that includes wealthy suburbs of Richmond in both Henrico and Goochland counties.
The district chose Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin in 2021 by a 51.2 percent margin, but in the 2020 congressional midterms the split was 50 percent Democratic to 49.1 percent Republican.
