YOUNGSTOWN
A former Warren G. Harding High School teacher who was sentenced to six months in Mahoning County jail for engaging in a sex act with an 18-year-old male student has been released after being jailed just over six weeks.
Judge Lou A. D’Apolito of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court released Amanda Basile, 31, of Austintown, Friday, but ordered her to immediately contact the Ohio Adult Parole Authority as she continues her three-year probation.
Basile resigned her teaching job in April and voluntarily surrendered her teaching license after the consensual March 14 sex act with the student in Austintown outside of the regular school day. She pleaded guilty to gross sexual imposition.
State law bars a teacher, coach or administrator from engaging in sexual conduct with a student attending the school where he or she works.
