“I still have white boys in my life asking me why my nipples are brown.”

When it comes to style, Halsey is one of the most daring musicians of the moment. This week she made her Playboy debut donning one of the most popular looks of the summer. For the spread, she went bra-less in a pink sheer bodysuit β that matched her hair perfectly by the way β freeing the nipple and showing off her amazing tattoos. The most interesting part about this whole look was not that she freed the nipple, but what she revealed about them.
Many people don’t realize that Halsey is biracial because β as she says herself β she’s “white passing.” But as a biracial woman interacting with white men, she’s dealt with much confusion over the color of her nipples. One of my big jokes a long time ago was βI look white, but I still have white boys in my life asking me why my nipples are brown,” she told Playboy. “I look like a white girl, but I donβt feel like one. Iβm a black woman. So itβs been weird navigating that. When I was growing up, I didnβt know if I was supposed to love TLC or Britney,” she continued.
While nipple colors are a sensitive subject, it’s interesting to see Halsey opening up about her racial identity as it relates to body parts, music and the male gaze.
