FIFTY SHADES OF GREY Blu-ray Trailer Teases Unrated Cut, Alternate Ending

While there were a number of criticisms lobbied against Fifty Shades of Grey, some argued that the movie was too tame. The book itself was billed as steamy “Mommy Porn,” and so many moviegoers were expecting the film’s sex scenes to match that kind of intensity. Director Sam Taylor-Johnson, however, opted for a more subtle approach, focusing more on the psychological effects of Anastasia (Dakota Johnson) and Christian’s (Jamie Dornan) relationship. Moreover, contract stipulations limited the kind of nudity that the actors were willing to partake in.
However, those of you upset by the tameness of the film may find solace in the fact that an “unrated version” of the film is headed to Blu-ray, as touted in the newly released Fifty Shades of Grey Blu-ray trailer. Moreover, the home video release will include an alternate ending and almost two hours of bonus content.

It’s no secret that Taylor-Johnson and author E.L. James clashed creatively on set, and one of their major battles was over the film’s ending—literally arguing about the last word in the film. James wanted Ana to say “stop”, while Taylor-Johnson felt using the word “red” would be more impactful (she was right). James won out in the end, but I imagine this “alternate ending” features Taylor-Johnson’s version of the conclusion.

The film will be available on Digital HD on May 1st and on Blu-ray and DVD on May 8th.
