President Joe Biden finally found a way to beat inflation – traveling to Tacos 1986, an L.A. eatery with prices that could have been around during his third Senate term.

Biden dined with two local Democratic lawmakers, Reps. Karen Bass and Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis, on a West Coast visit that has him bringing in campaign cash for House Democrats as they try to cling to control of the House.

Biden ordered a quesadilla asada and a quesadilla de pollo – giving him an option of steak or chicken, along with four tacos de pollo that were offered on the mixed English and Spanish menu of the Tijuana-style establishment.

He got it all for a mere $16.45, on a day when the Commerce Department announced that the Consumer Price Index was 8.2 per cent higher than it was a year ago. That was barely down from last month’s 8.3 per cent – with core inflation, which takes out energy and food costs, up 6.6 per cent.

At the restaurant counter, Biden asked for the takeout order for Bass, paying in cash.

‘What do we owe you,’ he said. Helping trim the bill was a 50 per cent ‘public service’ discount.

Biden could quite believe what he heard. ‘Six zero?’ he asked.

But the full amount was not intended for the workers, in a state with a $15-an-hour minimum wage. Biden asked the cashier to take care of the next customer’s meal for free.

‘Here, let me give you another $45, and the next person who comes in, give it to them free,’ Biden said. The cashier put the balance into a tip jar.

While he was there, he took a few questions from the press on inflation and other topics.

He spoke about a drop in gas prices before Opec+ nations announced a cut in production that has infuriated the administration.

Nationwide, they came down about $1.35 and they’re still down over a dollar but we’re going to work on housing … That’s the most important thing we have to do,’ he said.

He had another veiled message for oil giant Saudi Arabia when asked.

‘We’re about to talk to you,’ Biden said, but when asked to amplify his comments, he would say only to ‘stay tuned.’

Biden also tweeted out an image of him meeting virtually with his economic team from what looks like an L.A. hotel room.

‘I’m in CA today, but my team briefed me on today’s econ news. Inflation is happening globally, but we remain in a strong position to lower inflation while keeping a strong jobs market,’ Biden wrote.

‘I told my team to stay in touch with key market actors as conditions evolve,’ he said.
