Iowa woman charged for allegedly burning American flags while partially naked

BUSSEY, Iowa — A Knoxville woman has been charged with several crimes after police say she was partially naked while burning stolen American flags.

According to court documents, Marion County deputies responded around 4:30 a.m. Monday to 2nd Street in Bussey after receiving “a report of a nude female … who was lighting American flags on fire.”

There they found 21-year-old Brianna Laird undressed from the waist down with a flag tied around her head, a criminal complaint said. Laird allegedly gave deputies a false name before hitting a deputy in the face when he attempted to arrest her.

“She was eventually placed into handcuffs and put in the back seat of my patrol vehicle,” the arresting deputy wrote in the complaint. “Before I shut the door, the female also kicked me.”

Authorities later learned the flags that were damaged belonged to the city of Bussey. They also reportedly found drug paraphernalia inside Laird’s bag.

She’s been charged with assault on an officer, indecent exposure, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal mischief, theft and interference with official acts.
