Britney Spears Breaks Silence About Conservatorship During Shocking Court Hearing
Britney Spears delivered a bombshell testimony at a Los Angeles court on the controversial conservatorship that has put strict controls on her life for the last 13 years, saying that she is βdepressedβ and her management team βshould be in jail.β
Speaking at a Los Angeles court, the singer compared life under the arrangement to a sex trafficking victim as she claimed she’s been ‘forced’ to work ‘against her will’ – including a tour she agreed to ‘out of fear.’

As it stands, Jamie Spears has conservatorship over Britney. Jamie, who is Britneyβs father, became her conservator in 2007 after she had a public breakdown. She also admitted she cries every day over the conservatorship, which has prevented her from making important decisions about her life and finances for the last 13 years, and resulted in her being hospitalized for her mental health.
Britneyβs father has had sole control over most of her financial and career affairs ever since.
“It’s a lie saying I’m happy. I am traumatized. I’ve been in shock. I’m not happy. I can’t sleep. I cry every day,’ she told the court.
As conservator, Jamie Spears has a βprotectorβ role over Britney, where he has control over the majority of her life. Britney also called for her father Jamie Spears to ‘be in jail’ for his role in the conservatorship and said she wanted to sue her family for standing by him.

Fans of the singer have been very vocal about their concern for her. The #FreeBritney movement, which ultimately aims to free Spears from the control of her father, has garnered widespread attention online.
βThe last time I spoke to you [the judge] β¦ made me feel like I was dead. I am telling you again because I am not lying β¦ so maybe you can understand the depth and the degree and the damages β¦ I deserve changes,” she said.
Britney said she went on tour in 2018 ‘against her will’, claiming her management presented her with the paperwork to sign just as she stepped off stage in Las Vegas.
She also claimed that under the conservatorship she’s been unable to fulfil her dream of getting married and having more children with boyfriend Sam as she’s been put on contraception by her ‘team.’
“I have an IUD inside of me so that I don’t get pregnant,” Britney told the court.. “My team doesn’t want me to have any more children.”
Appearing via audiolink, Britney said “It’s my wish and dream for all this to end.’
She told the judge: “In California, the only similar thing to this is called sex trafficking, making anyone work against their will, taking all their possessions away credit card, cash, phone, passport.”
Last year, Britney appealed to have Jamie removed as conservator. While she agreed that the conservatorship had βrescued her from a collapse, exploitation by predatory individuals and financial ruinβ the singer no longer wanted her father Jamie as conservator.
Spears said: βI am not happy, I canβt sleep. Iβm so angry, itβs insane. And Iβm depressed.β
βMy dad and anyone involved in this conservatorship, including my management β¦ they should be in jail.β
βThe last time I spoke to you [the judge] β¦ made me feel like I was dead. I am telling you again because I am not lying β¦ so maybe you can understand the depth and the degree and the damages β¦ I deserve changes.β
Speaking about why she hadnβt opened up to the public in the past, she said, βI honestly donβt think anyone would believe me.β
βI thought people would make fun of me. Iβm just want my life back. Itβs enough.β
βAll I would honestly like to sue my family [and] share my story with the world.β
