Bella Thorne calls out Teen Choice Awards for ‘gross’ hottie category

In a series of tweets, the 20-year-old, who’s nominated for her work in the film Midnight Sun and her recently canceled show Famous in Love, went off on the awards show, which gives trophies to music, movies, television, and sports stars. While she has a few gripes, voting is a big one — as well as the “Choice Hottie” category.

Bella Thorne has been a regular fixture at the Teen Choice Awards, but even though she’s an acting nominee, she’s taking a hard pass on attending this year. In fact, she’s boycotting the show.

At this time in the world, voting for hotties — female or male (there are both) — does seem antiquated. And when you consider that it’s a show for young people, all the more so.
As for the “rigged” voting system, the website for the awards show claims that voting for each category is done online by fans both on the official website and on Twitter. “You may vote for as many of the active categories as you wish, but you are limited to ten (10) votes per category, per calendar day (based on Pacific Time) and per platform user ID,” say the instructions. “You may only vote for one Teen Choice nominee per Tweet. New categories will become available throughout the Voting Periods. … Votes are tabulated electronically and winners are determined based on the nominees in each category with the highest number of eligible votes.”
