Spring breaker: Florida firefighter has sex with up to 8 women while on duty

Clearwater Fire Lt. Stephen Coward, who resigned after being confronted with salacious emails and a sex video, used the firehouse he commanded as his personal sex club, according to a city report.

Clearwater Fire Lt. Stephen Coward resigned after this 20-second video clip surfaced. The footage showed a smiling Coward filming himself in the mirror having sex with a female companion.

It was spring break year-round for one sex-obsessed Florida firefighter. The lieutenant, who oversaw a popular beach town’s firehouse, resigned after video and emails emerged showing the married first responder got frisky with two other women — and watched porn on his cell phone — while on duty.The City of Clearwater recommended in a report last week that cameras be installed at its eight fire houses after Stephen Coward stepped down in September when Clearwater Fire & Rescue Chief Robert Weiss received an anonymous package containing 40 graphic emails and a video showing Coward having sex in a dorm at the firehouse, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

WFLA News Channel 8 “When firefighters are on the job they’re supposed to be working and presenting a good image for the city,” fire spokesman Rob Shaw told WFLA. “Not engaging in this type of behavior.”

Coward, a lieutenant since 2004 and 19-year veteran, was in command of Station 51 at Overbrook Ave. in Clearwater, Fla., which he apparently mistook for Studio 54. He admitted to having sex in his dorm, the fire department dive truck and the station’s weight room.

A second anonymous whistleblower told officials that Coward had sex with as many as eight women while on the job, including a school teacher and a former girlfriend of a colleague, WFTS reported.

“Lt. Coward again stated there is no excuse for what he did and he is truly sorry and embarrassed for the city,” the report said. The 20-second video clip showed a smiling Coward filming himself in the mirror having sex with a female companion. The ex-firefighter is in the process of a divorce, WFLA reported. “We’re very disappointed,” Shaw told WFTS. “We expect our firefighters to be professional, to represent the city the best way possible, and that didn’t happen in this case.”
