Donald Trump’s love for the game of golf is no secret, and the U.S. President is back in Scotland, adding to his golfing empire this week.

Ahead of trade talks with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and the EU Commission, President Trump has opened a new course on his property in Aberdeenshire, and while on site, was out testing out the 18-hole track. He has since made the trip over to Ayrshire to visit arguably his most famed course at Turnberry.

And keen to make the most of his trip, Trump also teed it up at the iconic Open Championship venue, with police and security surrounding the Turnberry venue during the President’s visit. It comes after Trump struggled to understand a simple question amid ‘cognitive decline’ concerns.

It is no surprise to see Trump with a golf club in hand, but it seems he has not left a good impression on many who have played with him in the past.

During the President’s first term in office back in 2019, a book named ‘Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump,’ was published by author Rick Reilly.

In the book, Reilly dissects Trump’s relationship with golf, accusing the President of cheating.

“To say ‘Donald Trump cheats’ is like saying ‘Michael Phelps swims,'” Reilly wrote. “He cheats at the highest level. He cheats when people are watching, and he cheats when they aren’t.

“He cheats whether you like it or not. He cheats because that’s how he plays golf… if you’re playing golf with him, he’s going to cheat.”

Reilly did not stop there in his criticism of Trump, this time questioning the legitimacy of his former handicap of 2.8.

The author went on to claim that if Trump’s really a 2.8 handicap golfer, then the late Queen Elizabeth is a “pole vaulter.”

During his time in the public eye, Trump has been up front about his golfing abilities, vocalizing a whole host of his club championship victories at his various properties.

One of his main aims is to see The Open return to his Turnberry setup in Ayrshire, having not hosted the major event since 2009.

This year’s Open headed to Northern Ireland and Royal Portrush for the second time in six years, where R&A chief Mark Darbon discussed the chances of Turnberry being handed back hosting duties.

“We love the golf course, but we’ve got some big logistical challenges there,” Darbon said at Royal Portrush this month. “You see the scale of their setup here, and we’ve got some work to do on the road, rail, and accommodation infrastructure around Turnberry.
