Named Best Actress for 2008 by the International Model and Talent Association and frequently compared to Angelina Jolie within the Australian Press, this young Aussie of Russian decent has worked on numerous American projects including Peter Bogdanovich’s the Mystery of Natalie Wood, the soon to be released feature film Red Ice and new webseries Chasing Evelyn.
Alexandra has revived numerous classical roles onstage including Shakespeare’s Lady Macbeth and Juliet as well as Cabaret’s Sally Bowles, Corie from Barefoot in the Park and originating the romantic lead of Kay in Jim Geoghan’s most recent play the Opposite of Funny. Later in the year she will bring to life the role of Alice in a revival of the play Closer within the Los Angeles area. Aside from acting, Alexandra has worked extensively as a model notably with labels such as Vera Wang, Via Spiga, Jessica Simpson, Johnson & Johnson and Bennetton. But not being one to stop with just acting, the young thespian holds music close to her heart playing the alto saxophone professionally as well as being an accomplished the pianist and singer. In her spare time she can be found sitting by the piano, painting or taking part in various UNICEF projects as a volunteer. Her passion for humanitarian causes is as dear to her as her career in acting.
Alexandra Dina Bard was born July 30, 1986 in Sydney Australia and raised on a small peninsula within Sydney Harbor called Hunters Hill.
Following her graduation from High School, Alexandra was encouraged by her NIDA teachers to pursue a career in America. At age 18 the young actress flew to New York City where she auditioned with over 4000 thousand hopefuls for a position at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts (AADA). She was one of 80 and amongst the youngest to be accepted into AADA’s full time program. After completing her degree at AADA, Alexandra chose to continue her education with New York “acting guru” William Esper (honored by SAG for his contribution to the acting profession and infamous for his 17 year working relationship with Sanford Meisner) after being offered a position in his personal class. Whilst living in New York Alexandra was cast in numerous off broadway plays bringing to life roles such as Lady Macbeth, Miss Julie and Sally Bowles at various New York playhouses including the Gene Frankel Theatre and the Mary MacArthur Theatre.
In 2008, half way through her training with William Esper, Alexandra was named “Best Actress” by the International Model and Talent Association. She took home the award for every category that her work was submitted including Best Performance in a Sitcom, Best Performance in a Soap Opera, Best Performance in a Monologue as well as receiving honors for her contribution as a model picking up the awards for Best Performance in a Beauty Commercial and Best Performance in a Commercial. The awards (which previously launched the careers of stars such as Katie Holmes, Jessica Biel, Eva Longoria, Ashton Kutcher, Elijah Wood and Josh Duhamel) immediately brought the young Aussie into the limelight.
Following her rise into the public eye Alexandra continued to study with William Esper until mid 2009 when she was encouraged to move to Los Angeles by her new team of agents and managers. Within her first 2 months of moving to LA, Alexandra was cast as the female lead in the independent thriler “Red Ice” (soon to be released in 2011). Her work as a model continued to boom, with Alexandra returning to New York on a regular basis to work with numerous design teams in their showrooms including working personally with Vera Wang and Jessica Simpson as well as internationally celebrated photographer Guy Webster in his Venice Beach Studio. Guy and Alexandra continue to share a special bond and have worked together on numerous occasions, with Alexandra being featured in exhibitions, fashion shoots and a portrait of her continues to hang in the photographers Ojai gallery. She has also worked with name photographers such as John Russo, Susan Shacter and Leslie Hassler.
Her most recent work includes a short with star of the Mentalist, Owain Yeoman (Rigsby), originating the romantic lead of Kay in Jim Geoghan’s latest play “The Opposite of Funny” and you can catch her as the star of the new web series “Chasing Evelyn” playing assassin Evelyn Green. Alexandra currently resides within the Los Angeles area.
