It’s kind of a thing, but not really. I tend to research any of the headlines I come across here to make sure I know at least most of the story.
So what is happening here is:
SexySexEd is a long running sex ed program in rural Appalachia. But then like most of these conservative outrage twitters/podcasts, they’re combining and omitting things in order to create outrage.
The organization does in fact have a sex ed program for toddlers. Mainly it appears to be “Don’t be scared of your vagina/penis, and if someone touches you this way it’s bad.” Pretty boilerplate.
But separately, they had a virtual sex ed camp for teens. Toddlers were not a part of it, since a lot of it is conceptual ideas about politics, race and sex. Like for example there’s a four hour workshop discussing the history of Eugenics in rural Appalachia and the historical impact. I think you would only assume that it’s a camp for toddlers if you genuinely bought into the narrative that liberals are psychotic monsters forcing their kids to watch porn. Here’s the camp program if you’re interested: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1U88_Gmo7MCQuyeYmS3LGk_B7HDYdqmBxO-ZKHy7penU/edit#gid=1337851009
So they have toddler programs. And there’s a separate sex ed camp. But they’ve mashed that together to imply that toddlers are going to a sex ed camp.
They also faced outrage in conservative media for one of the workshops titled “Sex on Drugs”. With the outrage being “they’re telling teens to get high and have sex”.
Which, if you’ve ever been a teen… you know teens experiment with drugs, ESPECIALLY in rural Appalachia. This is the program’s description:
This workshop will explore the nuances of engaging in sexual activity while using licit and illicit drugs. Together, we will explore why people engage in sexual activity while on drugs; the nuances of substance use and consent; and harm reduction strategies around having sex on substances.
Which, yes. This is a positive in my opinion. When I was a teen it was easier to get drugs then booze, and I had sex on drugs. As an example, GHB makes sex amazing. However if you don’t know the basic rule of “don’t have a drop of liquor with it” you will harm yourself. Teens are going to experiment… we all know this. So teaching them the basic harm reduction strategies only saves lives.
This is the website of the camp they’re talking about. Basically it’s an organization that fosters open discussions about sexual health and various sexual education topics (safe sex practices, birth control, types of sex, etc). It’s basically a comprehensive, open minded, science based sexual education camp that aims to bridge the gap between conservative sexual education and the reality of sex.
“Sexy Sex Ed is a workshop series that compels teenagers and people of all ages to openly discuss personal and political consent, sexual safety, and anatomy. Using visual & performance art, open dialogue, and popular education methods, Sexy Sex Ed fills a vital gap in reproductive education as a creative, cultural healing solution in rural Appalachia.”

I don’t know who this is, but as someone with 2 kids, the advice itself on toddler masturbation is common. They don’t do it because of any sexual connotations, they just discover naturally that touching themselves feels good… https://www.whattoexpect.com/toddler/behavior/masturbating.aspx
