Seven people — including four Tampa women — were arrested this past week for their roles in an organized theft ring that netted about $50,000 in stolen goods from two Victoria’s Secret stores in Polk County, deputies said.

view this image at imgur.comDeputies said the thieves were seen concealing merchandise and using “booster bags” to remove the items from the store without paying for them. “Booster bags” are commonly used to get merchandise past anti-theft detectors at the front of stores, and, according to deputies, bags like that were found in the suspects’ possession.

“It looks like we were able to stop this ‘panty raid’ just in time,” Sheriff Grady Judd said.
The arrests took place from Oct. 20 to 23.
Those arrested and the charges were:
• Sherreane Williams, 35, of Tampa; grand theft, petit theft, resisting arrest, and possession of an anti-theft shoplifting device.
• Pauline Billups, 42, of Tampa; two counts of grand theft, one count of petit theft, resisting arrest, and possession of an anti-theft shoplifting device.
• Tequilla Wilson, 29, of Tampa; grand theft, petit theft, resisting arrest, and possession of an anti-theft shoplifting device.
• Shantheia Conner, 29, of Tampa; three counts of grand theft, one count of petit theft, resisting arrest and possession of an anti-theft shoplifting device.
• Donat Simeus Jr., 31, of North Palm Beach; grand theft, resisting arrest, and possession of an anti-theft shoplifting device.
• Sheila Wade, 46, of West Palm Beach; grand theft and possession of an anti-theft shoplifting device.
• Janie Waiters, 43, of West Palm Beach; grand theft and possession of an anti-theft shoplifting device.
Deputies said that since July there have been 18 thefts at Lakeside Village in Lakeland and eight at Eagle Ridge Mall in Lake Wales.
According to deputies, the Tampa women were arrested at the Eagle Ridge Mall after sheriff’s detectives witnessed them shoplifting pants from Victoria’s Secret and perfumed lotion and body spray from Bath & Body Works. All attempted to flee when confronted by detectives, the sheriff’s office said.
According to the sheriff’s office, Williams said she was paid $20 to drive the others from Tampa to Lake Wales, and that she received $600 and month in disability benefits.
According to the sheriff’s office, the other three Tampa women said their received food stamps from the government. Billups said she steals to support her children, selling merchandise on the street at half-value, deputies said. Conner said she shoplifts to support her three children, investigators said.
