Former King High School teacher and coach, Tanya Ramirez, was convicted of having sex with the teen after he provided video showing her bent over with a tattoo on her lower back. Ramirez is now suing the student, claiming the 2014 filming and distribution of their sexual encounter caused her emotional distress.
Both the student and the teacher will appear on Wednesday’s episode of Dr. Phil. In a promo for the episode, the student describes the encounter and Ramirez explains how the video impacted her life.
“You can’t have sex with someone and film it without their knowledge, and post it on the Internet,” Amie Pratt, a lawyer for Ramirez, told the Daily News.
According to the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, the 31-year-old has not only filed a defamation lawsuit against the teen’s mother for referring to her as a “predator” in the press, but she is also challenging her charges in appeals court.
Ramirez pleaded guilty Jan. 11 to a second-degree felony charge of improper relationship between an educator and student and will receive seven years probation in the case.
In a separate incident, Ramirez pleaded no contest on charge of sex with another student.
She does not have to register as a sex offender, according to KIII, and while she voluntarily gave up her teacher’s license, it may be returned to her if the appeal is successful.
