Edison Chen loses financial backing
Edison Chen’s career as a singer-actor may soon hit the skids, no thanks to his philandering lifestyle.
His boss and other senior figures in the Hong Kong entertainment industry have been reported to be livid after the latest scandal – where his affair with a nubile 16-year-old student model Cammi Tse – went viral.
Salacious photos of the pair exchanging kisses – with 31-year-old Chen baring his tanned torso in them – were posted online.
The pictures have also been published in Hong Kong tabloid Eastweek.
Media mogul Peter Lam, who is the chairman of film production and distribution studio Media Asia Entertainment Group, is said to have stopped backing Chen and his multimedia production company Clot Media Division (CMD), Hong Kong media reported.
Mr Lam had stood solidly by Chen throughout the long-drawn-out saga in 2008.
He engaged lawyers to fight Chen’s case then, and even helped finance CMD.
The infamous sex photo scandal emerged that year when raunchy photos of Chen and a slew of female celebrities were leaked online.
Since the current scandal broke – just six months after Chen’s break-up with his girlfriend Vincy Yeung – Tse has become a target of Hong Kong’s paparazzi.
Reporters began tailing her from 7am, even following her to school. In an attempt to deflect attention, she wore a mask and black-rimmed spectacles.
When reporters managed to get a chance to interview her on Tuesday evening, Tse claimed: “We (referring to her and Chen) did not have sex, I’m only 16.”
She also denied that there were more intimate, risque photos to come.
“No, those (circulating) are the only ones. The photos were all in my mobile phone. I can’t find my phone, and that’s worrying.”
It was reported earlier that Tse had lost her phone, which had apparently led to the pictures of her and Chen being leaked online.
Meanwhile, veteran actor Patrick Tse, 75, who is actor Nicholas Tse’s father, did not have kind words for Chen.
At a promotional event in Hong Kong on Wednesday, his face “turned black” the moment reporters broached the topic of Chen’s scandal.
“Such a person (referring to Chen) is not worth mentioning at all,” he was reported to have said in a huff.
Tse’s former daughter-in-law, actress Cecilia Cheung, was one of the celebrities embroiled in Chen’s 2008 sex scandal.
Cheung and Nicholas have since divorced.

The Sinowood Sex Scandal or more popularly known as the Edison Chen Sex Scandal involved Internet distribution of intimate photographs of Hong Kong actor Edison Chen with various women, mainly celebrities including actresses such as Gillian Chung, Bobo Chan, Rachel Ngan and Cecilia Cheung.[1] The scandal shook the Hong Kong entertainment industry in early 2008 and received high profile media attention locally and around the world. Actually, I was also so shocked that I went speechless for three days !
Let’s put it this way, how often do you hear there are multiple celebs involved in one single scandal ? In this case, there were at least 15 FIFTEEN of them, and all of them are either big timer or at least high flyer celebs in the Far East Hollywood … Just to give you as idea, practically all of them are as famous as Jackie Chan or Bruce Lee !
Someone like Blake Lively isn’t even in their league in term of fame and popularity (in the Far East entertainment community). Can you imagine what a shocking scandal is this one now? Many local newspapers headlined the story consecutively during the first fortnight of February 2008, relegating coverage of the 2008 Chinese winter storms to secondary prominence during Chinese New Year.

A computer technician was eventually convicted of three counts of offences including obtaining access to a computer with dishonest intent, and subsequently received a custodial sentence of eight and a half months.[4]

Chen admitted being the author of most of the photographs, and stated that the photographs had been stolen and published without his consent. He made a public apology, especially to the women involved, and also announced that he would “step away indefinitely” from the Hong Kong entertainment industry.[7]
