Originally from Tokyo, Japan, Maho Honda is a NYC-based actor.
Prior to coming to the U.S., Maho appeared in several Japanese TV programs, including the national network TV drama series, Mama no Kamisama, by Tokyo Broadcast System Television Network. Maho began her career as a model in 2004 and participated in more than 15 national network TV commercials as well as other local TV commercials and nationwide print ads for major companies like DHC, Toray, and Joyo Bank (Maho was the face of these 3 companies’ campaigns). Additionally, Maho participated in numerous international modeling shows including China Fashion Week. She also worked for a lot of popular magazines such as JJ, With, Ray, an_an, and Weekly Playboy. She won the Grand Prix at the Toray Swimsuit Campaign Girl Contest 2004 in Tokyo (as known as ” the gateway to success for new actresses” ). In addition to these prestigious awards Maho claimed 4th Prize/The Media Attention Prize at the Asian Super Model Contest 2006 in Beijing. Thanks to her professional history in Japan and China, Maho was granted permanent residency in the US as an “Internationally successful artist with extraordinary ability.
Maho relocated to NYC in 2009 and completed a 2 year full-time acting training program at HB Studio. Presently, she studies with renowned actor/director Austin Pendleton. She has acted in episodic series, independent films, and off-off broadway theater productions such as Unbreakable Kimmy Shmidt (Netflix) and The Newsroom (HBO). Maho has also appeared in national network TV commercials for high-profile clients like World Wildlife Fund and Sony, in addition to a good number of local TV and internet commercials, industrial videos, and print ads for major international companies like Uniqlo, Coca Cola, Nike, Amazon, and IBM.
In New York, Maho has also devoted much of her time and energy to developing her own projects. In 2013, Maho established her production company, Tall Trees Playground, LLC., and produced a comedic web-series, 2nd Avenue. The show got major media coverage such as Yahoo! Japan and Asahi Shimbun and the first season was completed through a highly successful Kickstarter campaign. Her next project is in development as of summer 2014.
Lastly, Maho has been a proud member of SAG-AFTRA since 2011.
