Apparently Elizabeth Olsen Has Issues With Her Infinity War Costume.
Elizabeth Olsen addresses Scarlet Witch’s “cleavage corset” costume Marvel films. Playing half of the Maximoff siblings, the actress first started as a villain in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but as the years go by, Wanda has become a part of MCU’s regular heroes, even developing a relationship with Vision which is one of the integral subplots of Avengers: Infinity War.
Due to her rich narrative history in the comics, Olsen’s cinematic iteration of Scarlet Witch is continuously being built up as one of the leading female heroes in the MCU – being only the second actress to officially be a part of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes following Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow. But as she’s joined by a slew of strong and capable lady players such Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp, Valkyrie and Wakanda’s Okoye, Shuri, Nakia, she begins to wonder why she’s the only one who has quite a sexualized costume.
In an interview with Elle, the actress candidly spoke about how her superhero costume is actually making her uncomfortable. Olsen specifically pointed out the neckline of her suit that is a bit too low, exposing her cleavage – something that has been seen in multiple female heroes in the comic books. But times have changed and she said that she hopes something could be done about it.
“It would just not be a cleavage corset. I like corsets, but I’d like it to be higher. Everyone has these things that cover them—Tessa Thompson does, Scarlett does. I would like to cover up a bit. It’s funny because sometimes I look around and I’m just like—wow, I’m the only one who has cleavage, and that’s a constant joke because they haven’t really evolved my superhero costume that much. But then you look at where it started in the comic books and it was a leotard and a headband so…oh, it’s horrible, it’s so horrible. So at least they know that’s not cool. But then they made Wonder Woman, you know? And that’s what she’s in. I think of the costumes and what we have to wear—it’s more about iconic images, because that’s what these movies are…. I think that’s the goal with the costumes, and it’s not representing the average woman.”
