Renée O’Connor was born in Houston, Texas, to Walter and Sandra O’Connor (now Wilson), and raised in Katy, a Houston suburb. She attended Taylor High School and the Houston High School of Visual and Performing Arts. Renée has one older brother, Chris.
Renée appeared in commercials, including one for McDonalds, a feature film called Night Game (1989), and some work for “The All New Mickey Mouse Club” (1989) (aka “The Mickey Mouse Club) in 1989. She also made guest appearances on TV shows such as “NYPD Blue” (1993), before starring as “Deineira” in the Hercules TV movie Hercules: The Legendary Journeys – Hercules and the Lost Kingdom (1994) (TV). She caught the eyes of executive producers Sam Raimi and Robert G. Tapert, who cast Renée in the 1994 film Darkman II: The Return of Durant (1995) (V). Soon after, Hercules’ sister show, “Xena: Warrior Princess” (1995) was launched, and Renée was cast as “Gabrielle”, Xena’s trusty sidekick.
Until 2001, Renée resided in Auckland, New Zealand, where “Xena” was filmed. She was married to restaurant owner Steve Muir (a kiwi, or New Zealander) in October 2000, in Austin, Texas, and they had a son. However, after the series ended, Renée returned to Texas and was divorced from Steve. In 2005, she had a baby girl with her new boyfriend, actor Jed Sura.
Reneé O’Connor made a name for herself when she resided in Auckland, New Zealand, playing the role of Gabrielle, Xena’s trusted sidekick on the popular series from 1996-2001. The scene stealing role created a huge worldwide fan base, one still active in countless websites dedicated to the actress and this signature series.
She then moved on to launch her own film production company – ROC Pictures: www.ROCPictures.com Her first independent production under the company is the romantic comedy, Diamonds and Guns which was released on DVD in January 2008. She wrote, directed, and produced the award winning short film, Words Unspoken in 2010.

Renee has starred in several independent films including this year’s Beyond The Farthest Star, the anticipated release from Pathlight Entertainment, an American Beauty’ style family drama.

Prior to her breakout role, Reneé lived in Texas and began her professional film career at the age of 17, starring in the serial Teen Angel, a regular feature on the Disney Channel’s The Mickey Mouse Club. Other credits include the Disney film, The Adventures of Huck Finn with Elijah Wood; television movies such as Follow the River with Ellen Burstyn, Danielle Steele’s Changes, and co-starring with James Garner in his second Rockford Files reunion movie; independent films Boogeyman 2 with Tobin Bell, Alien Apocalypse with Bruce Campbell to name a few.
Reneé’s talent extends well beyond the big screen or the small screen. Also an acclaimed stuntwoman, Reneé is proficient in Tae Kwon Do. Additionally, she is a talented artist and has auctioned off paintings for charities as well as to help finance projects under her production company.

Renée’s step-father Eddie Wilson is the former owner of The Armadillo World Headquarters which was located in Austin, Texas. He is currently owner of the original Threadgill’s located in north Austin, Texas and its newer second location located in south Austin, Texas. All locations have been venues which many famous musicians have played. One of the first places Janis Joplin started singing was at Threadgill’s while attending the University of Texas.
She also paints. Her paintings have been exhibited in a show.
Was voted # 3 of the most intriguing people in 1996, # 2 in 1997, and one of the most beautiful people of 1997, by People Online. She made the cover of TV Guide on the July 29, 2000 to August 4, 2000, issue. It was one of eight collector’s covers.

When she started dating her first husband Steve Muir, he asked her what she did for a living. She replied she worked on the Xena set. Not saying she was a co-star. It was only when he introduced her to his friends that one of his friends commented that Renee was Gabrielle.
